Built in 1582 this beautiful property was first constructed as a small farm dwelling forming part of a considerable estate. By 1635 a new owner took over and added a blacksmith’s forge alongside an additional 2 acres of arable land which totalled 6 acres altogether. During the 17th centaury records show that 3 acres of the land had been planted with hops and an additional two cottages had been built alongside. In 1794 a hop grower and beer retailer took lodgings and were soon granted a licence to sell ales and cider, this licence was issued on 8th April 1796. At this period of time a name had not been given to this drinking establishment and was known only as ‘Beer House Owned by One Questine’. 1807 saw the adjoining cottages being purchased and becoming a slaughter house and butchers, however by 1895 the properties were resold and the new owner registered the building as ‘The Walnut Tree’. The three cottages were then purchased by one owner who made the three buildings into one and opened up officially in 1962 as a public drinking house maintaining the name given all those years before.
The present owners have had their fair share of paranormal episodes within this building, backed up by independent witnesses. One time they (and people sitting at the bar) watched with amazement as a wine glass took itself off a top shelf, hover for a second in the air before plummeting to the floor; it was as if an invisible hand was at play! They have also observed perplexed as glasses and jugs that hang on hooks begin to sway of their own accord, no one human had brushed past them all and so no logical reason can be found as to why they all moved at the same time. Customers have mentioned how they felt as if their bottoms have been pinched and the owners dogs often observed the ‘unseen’ cross rooms. The Walnut Tree definitely has an ambiance all of its own with active spirit who appear to want to be known. |

The Golden Ball was first built as a private dwelling yet is mentioned as being a public drinking establishment in the Kent Trade Directory of 1832. Kennington the village is mentioned in The Domesday book and claims the abbot himself holds Kennington; the value placed on this village at the time of this mention was £12.00 (new money)!
No other history can be traced for this building, either before or after it became a drinking establishment.
I can confirm however that active spirit does reside within these walls and I look forward to them stepping forward to reveal all. |

HALLOWEEN SPECIAL
The Swan Inn is the only public house in the parish of Woods Corner and was built in the early sixteenth century with alterations being made during the late seventeenth century. The original name for this establishment was ‘The Stilers’ and the entrance was once located in between two large windows which has since been moved.
It is where the very front entrance used to be situated that ‘ghostly’ visitors still pass through. There are a good number of clientele and staff who report seeing a man in the lower half of the bar area, only to find that the figure disappears in the blink of the eye. Footsteps and noises are often audible without any logical explanations, and the Swan is known to be haunted by the locals and owners, as many phenomenons have taken place. The pub has been built on crossroads which are renowned for extra energy and leys. This pub was creepy in the day time when visited by myself and Steve, so one can only imagine what the grave yard shift will bring! |

This is a strange investigation site; we have some history on the building; although it’s very limited as it appears the road name has changed over the years; well in actual fact the building used to exist on land with no road….
We do know that this building was originally constructed as three cottages, however we cannot ascertain in what year this was but have found out that they were connected to the Blacksmith industry. The site where The White House stands was locally know as ‘witches corner’, again there is no documented evidence to give the reason why such a name was given by the locals but when you arrive here you may begin to understand why! It appears that the three cottages finally became a public house around 1850; it was licensed to sell cider and ales only.
When you enter this premise you are zapped way back in time, the atmospherics here cannot be explained easily it’s a venue you’d have to attend to comprehend what I’m trying to say.
Janet, the owner, told us of many examples that not only herself but locals have witnessed over the years, such as; Glasses being thrown, not only from the bar area but also from tables around the inn. Objects will go missing, sometimes for long periods of time and keys also seem to disappear and turn up in the most obscure places! I was also told of how one of the local Doctors would come in for a drink and bring his dog with him, the dog was always very well behaved and very quite. Yet on one occasion the dog sat up suddenly looked towards the bar, went rigid and howled; this was witnessed by eight independent witness’s and non of them knew why the animal behaved in such an out of character way.
This investigation site will provide hot beverages and snacks only as they do not serve food. |

The George & Dragon dates from circa 1515 and is a very beautiful old English country pub complete with many fine beams and inglenook fireplaces. It is said to have been the home of the Earl of Stafford and to have been visited by Queen Elizabeth I. The Gunpowder Plot was hatched next door in the town house and Guy Fawkes carved two symbols upon the wooden fireplace when he stayed at the George & Dragon prior to his capture when The Gunpowder Plot failed. It is reputed that the Duke of Northumberland was imprisoned in the old restaurant. In August 1908 a murder took place (rather brutal) not far from this inn and the second inquest into the murder was held within these walls.
The George & Dragon has witnessed many events over it long years and the many spirit contained within the walls have a story to tell….this site is very active! |
